I operate a small one-man shop in Chesterfield, Virginia. I have over 30 years of experience specializing in handcrafted furniture. My passion is reflected in my work, and I have a reputation for excellence. With no rooted style, I use a fusion of Shaker, Mission, and Japanese influences to create custom pieces. I am very intentional in the furniture design and building process and I am not afraid to think outside of the box to design and build customer-specific styles and designs. All furniture is handcrafted using traditional joinery, dovetails, mortise and tenon, etc. Features unique to all Wood by Roy pieces include cedar bottom drawers, careful wood selection, and a hand-rubbed oil finish to make pieces that last for generations.
One of my true passions is fly fishing. Over the years I have acquired a large selection of fly rods with tubes that stayed stacked in a corner. I designed a wooden fly rod tube holder for my fly rods that looks great and is functional. I also designed fly tying furniture and wooden fly boxes. Take a look at some of the furniture and boxes I have made for customers and myself. It would be a privilege to build a piece or box for you.
This is a passion but most importantly a calling that came into my heart many years ago. I started building twin beds for children that were sleeping on the floor without a bed or mattress. The numbers are staggering of children without a warm bed to sleep in at night. 20% of proceeds from all pieces sold go directly to making these beds and supplying mattress and bed linens needed for children to have a good night sleep.
